Alagar Kovil, also known as Azhagar Kovil, is a sacred Vishnu temple located around 21 km north of Madurai, nestled amidst the lush Alagar Hills (Solaimalai). Worshipped here as Sundararaja Perumal (Alagar), Lord Vishnu is revered for his divine beauty and protective grace. This tale is grandly reenacted each year during the Chithirai Festival, where his idol is ceremoniously taken to the riverbank.
