​Belur is a historic town located in the Hassan district of Karnataka, India. It is renowned for its exquisitely crafted temples, which are exemplary specimens of Hoysala architecture. The most famous temple in Belur is the Chennakesava Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Chennakesava Temple is a masterpiece of Hoysala architecture and is known for its intricate carvings, detailed sculptures, and beautiful craftsmanship. It is one of the finest examples of Hoysala art and is renowned for its richly decorated exteriors and interiors. The construction of the Chennakesava Temple began in the 12th century during the rule of King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala Empire and continued for many decades. The temple is dedicated to Lord Chennakesava (a form of Lord Vishnu). The temple is adorned with numerous sculptures and friezes depicting scenes from Hindu mythology, including episodes from the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and various Puranas. The level of detail and craftsmanship in the carvings is remarkable. Besides the Chennakesava Temple, Belur has other temples and monuments of historical and architectural significance. Yagachi Dam is located near Belur and is a scenic spot where visitors can enjoy the view of the dam and its surroundings.
