Cambodia

Cambodia is a country located in the southern part of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. Cambodian Riel (KHR), though the United States Dollar (USD) is widely accepted. Cambodia shares borders with Thailand to the west and northwest, Laos to the northeast, and Vietnam to the east and southeast. It has a coastline along the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest. Cambodia has a rich and complex history, including the ancient Khmer Empire, which built the famous Angkor Wat temple complex. The country later experienced a period of French colonization and, in the 1970s, the devastating Khmer Rouge regime led by Pol Pot, during which millions of Cambodians lost their lives. The majority of Cambodians practice Theravada Buddhism, and the country has a rich cultural heritage with influences from Hinduism and Buddhism. A UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most iconic and well-preserved temple complexes in the world. The capital city with historical sites like the Royal Palace and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. A popular tourist destination near Angkor Wat, known for its vibrant nightlife, markets, and cultural experiences. Cambodia's economy has been growing steadily in recent years, with industries such as textiles, tourism, and agriculture playing significant roles. Cambodia has natural attractions, including the Tonle Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, and various national parks. Besides Khmer, English is widely spoken in urban areas and tourist destinations. Cambodian cuisine is influenced by the flavors of Southeast Asia, featuring dishes like Amok (a coconut milk curry), Fish and Rice, and various noodle soups.
