The Chinthamani Vaitheeswarankoil Temple is an ancient Lord Shiva temple located in Chinthamani village near Villupuram. The presiding deity is Vaitheeswarar, also known as Vaidyanathar, worshipped as the God who cures diseases and grants health. The temple is a historic Chola-period shrine, believed to have been built during the reign of Vikrama Chola. Stone inscriptions found in the temple record donations and lamps offered to the deity during the Chola era. The name “Chinthamani” is believed to have evolved from “Dheena Chintamani,” associated with the name of a Chola queen.
