Jomsom is a popular trekking destination in the Annapurna region of Nepal, and the trek from Nayapul to Jomsom is often referred to as the "Jomsom Trek" or the "Annapurna Circuit Trek." The trek typically begins in Nayapul, a town in the Kaski District of Nepal. Nayapul is accessible by road from Pokhara. Trekkers are required to obtain necessary permits, such as the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card, before starting the trek. The trek offers a diverse range of landscapes, from lush green forests and terraced fields to arid, high-altitude deserts. Trekkers experience the changing scenery as they ascend in altitude. Many trekkers opt to take a detour to Ghorepani and climb Poon Hill for sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. The panoramic views from Poon Hill are a major highlight of the trek. The trek passes through traditional Nepali villages inhabited by various ethnic groups like Gurungs and Magars. These villages provide an opportunity to experience the local culture, traditions, and hospitality. At Tatopani, trekkers have the option to relax in natural hot springs, providing a soothing break for tired muscles. The trail follows the Kali Gandaki River Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world, with the towering peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri on either side. The village of Marpha is famous for its apple orchards, and trekkers can try local apple products, including apple brandy and dried apples. Kagbeni is a medieval village with narrow alleyways and traditional mud-brick houses. It is also the gateway to the restricted Upper Mustang region. Jomsom is the administrative center of the Mustang district and is located at an altitude of about 2,700 meters. The trek concludes in Jomsom, where trekkers can either fly back to Pokhara or continue their journey to Upper Mustang. The weather along the trek can vary, with lower altitudes being warmer and higher altitudes experiencing colder temperatures. Trekkers should be prepared for a range of weather conditions. Many trekkers choose to fly from Pokhara to Jomsom and then trek back down, allowing for a quicker return journey. The Nayapul to Jomsom trek is renowned for its diverse landscapes, cultural experiences, and the opportunity to witness some of the world's highest peaks. It attracts trekkers seeking a mix of natural beauty, cultural exploration, and the challenge of high-altitude trekking in the Annapurna region of Nepal
