The Bhagavathi Amman Temple in Kanyakumari is one of the 108 Shakti Peethas and holds deep spiritual and cultural significance. It is dedicated to Goddess Devi Kanyakumari, an incarnation of Parvati, who assumed the form of an eternal virgin (Kanya) to destroy the demon Banasura, who could only be defeated by a virgin. According to legend, she was to marry Lord Shiva, but due to a trick played by the sage Narada, the wedding did not take place.
