Kote Betta, meaning "Fort Hill," is the third-highest peak in Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka, rising to about 1,620 meters above sea level. Nestled amidst the Western Ghats near Madikeri and Somwarpet, this lush green mountain offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, adventure, and mythology. The hill is believed to have been visited by the Pandavas during their exile, and local legends say that Lord Shiva once meditated here. A small Shiva temple located at the base of the hill serves as a spiritual starting point for trekkers. Kote Betta is a popular trekking destination, especially for nature lovers and photographers. The moderate trek, about 7–8 km one way, passes through coffee plantations, dense forests, meadows, and streams, offering stunning panoramic views of the Coorg landscape. During the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, the trail is particularly lush and filled with mist and chirping birds. Unlike more commercial peaks, Kote Betta remains relatively untouched and peaceful, making it ideal for those seeking solitude or a quiet day with nature. The summit rewards trekkers with breathtaking views and a sense of serenity, making Kote Betta a must-visit for anyone exploring the natural wonders of Coorg.
