About Laxman Jhula

Laxman Jhula is located in the town of Rishikesh, which is a popular spiritual and adventure tourism destination in the foothills of the Himalayas. Rishikesh is known for its serene ambiance, yoga and meditation centers, and the presence of the Ganges River. The bridge is named after Laxman, the younger brother of Lord Rama from the Hindu epic Ramayana. According to legend, Laxman is believed to have crossed the Ganges River at this spot on a jute rope, and a bridge was later constructed in the same location. Laxman Jhula is a suspension bridge made of iron and is approximately 450 feet (137 meters) long. It is suspended at an elevation of about 70 feet (21 meters) above the river. The bridge connects the two banks of the Ganges and provides pedestrians and two-wheeler access. Laxman Jhula is not just a bridge; it is also a symbolic and spiritual landmark. The area around the bridge is dotted with ashrams, temples, and yoga centers, making it a hub for religious and cultural activities. Crossing Laxman Jhula offers panoramic views of the Ganges River, the surrounding hills, and the town of Rishikesh. The bridge is often crowded with tourists, pilgrims, and locals who come to enjoy the scenic beauty and the spiritual atmosphere. Near Laxman Jhula, you can find several attractions, including the Trimbakeshwar Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the Laxman Temple, which is believed to be the site where Laxman meditated. Rishikesh, and by extension, Laxman Jhula, is a popular destination for adventure activities such as white-water rafting, trekking, and camping. The bridge is a starting point for exploring the spiritual and adventure aspects of the region. Rishikesh is well-connected by road and is easily accessible from major cities in North India. The nearest railway station is in Haridwar, and the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the closest airport.
