The Marungoor Murugan Temple, also known as the Subramania Swamy Temple, is a sacred hilltop shrine located near Kanyakumari in the ancient village of Marungoor, historically known as Idai-aatru-mangalam. With a history spanning over 2000 years, the temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, and it stands out for its serene atmosphere, traditional architecture, and spiritual energy. According to legend, a king had a divine dream in which Lord Murugan instructed him to restore the Panchagola hand (made of five metals) to the idol instead of replacing it. Following this vision, the sacred Panchagola hand was reattached. The main idol, Thiruvaasi, and Prabhai are all carved from a single stone, a rare and unique feature. It is also believed that Indra, the king of the gods, used to visit the temple during Artha Jaama Pujai at the nearby Suchindrum temple. A tunnel is said to connect Marungoor and Suchindrum temples, used during ancient wars. The temple also enshrines deities like Kulasekara Vinayakar, Sangili Bhoodhathaan, and Kasi Viswanathar. Major festivals celebrated include Soora Samharam (Iippasi month) and Thirukkalyanam (Chithirai month), drawing large crowds of devotees.
