Muthupet Dargah, also known as Jambavanodai Dargah, is located in the coastal town of Muthupet in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvarur district. Believed to be around 700–1,000 years old, it’s one of South India’s most ancient Sufi shrines, revered across religious lines. The sanctuary honors Sheikh Dawood Kamil Valyullah, whose spiritual presence has drawn pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and abroad . According to local legend, during land cultivation, a farmer named Karuppaiah Konnaar inexplicably lost his sight. In his dream, an Arab saint revealed that his grave lay beneath the soil. On visiting and performing tomb rites alongside two followers Kabir Khan and Hameed Khan his sight was miraculously restored . This miracle solidified the dargah’s status as a site of healing, particularly for physical and mental ailments, earning it a reputation as a powerful spiritual refuge . The Kandoori festival, an annual celebration featuring flag hoisting, sandal paste ceremonies, and devotional processions, attracts thousands of devotees of all faiths. Today, the Dargah stands as a testament to communal harmony and spiritual solace, offering devotees a sanctified space where divine grace and shared humanity converge.
