Devipattinam Navagraha Temple Located in the serene coastal village of Devipattinam in Tamil Nadu, the Navagraha Temple here is one of the most unique shrines dedicated to the nine planetary deities (Navagrahas), set in the shallow waters of the Bay of Bengal. What makes this temple extraordinary is that the nine stone idols representing the planets are partially submerged in the sea, where devotees walk through water to perform rituals. According to legend, Lord Rama worshipped the Navagrahas at Devipattinam before embarking on his journey to Lanka to rescue Sita. To ensure success in his mission, he installed the nine planetary stones in the ocean to appease their influence. These stones, believed to be placed by Rama himself, remain standing in the same spot and are revered as Swayambhu (self-manifested). This ritual act of Lord Rama gave the site immense spiritual significance. The sea here remains calm and shallow, allowing devotees to perform dosha parihara pujas (remedial rituals for planetary afflictions) directly around the stones. Today, Devipattinam is visited by thousands seeking relief from Navagraha doshas, ancestral curses, and planetary misalignments.
