Pykara Waterfalls A Scenic Marvel of the Nilgiris.Pykara Waterfalls, located about 20 km from Ooty in Tamil Nadu, is one of the most picturesque natural attractions in the Nilgiri Hills. Formed by the Pykara River, which originates from the Mukurthi Peak, the waterfall cascades gracefully in two stages first dropping about 55 meters and then another 61 meters into a deep rocky gorge surrounded by dense forest. Set amidst lush greenery and rolling landscapes, the falls are especially stunning during and after the monsoon season when the water flow is strong and the surroundings turn vibrant. The sound of the gushing water, combined with the mist rising from the plunge, creates a tranquil yet thrilling ambiance. The site is well-maintained, with designated viewpoints and safety barricades offering clear views of the falls. Close to the waterfalls lies the serene Pykara Lake and Boathouse, offering visitors a chance to enjoy peaceful boat rides. Pykara has also been a favorite shooting spot for many Indian films, adding a touch of cinematic nostalgia.
