About Ram Jhula

Ram Jhula is situated in the town of Rishikesh, which is known for its spiritual significance and is often referred to as the "Yoga Capital of the World." The bridge spans the Ganges River and connects the eastern and western banks. Ram Jhula is a suspension bridge, similar in design to Laxman Jhula but slightly longer. It is constructed with iron and is approximately 450 feet (137 meters) in length. The bridge is suspended at an elevation of about 55 feet (17 meters) above the river. The area around Ram Jhula is known for its spiritual ambiance and is home to numerous ashrams, temples, and yoga centers. The bridge is in proximity to the Trayambakeshwar Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a popular pilgrimage site. Crossing Ram Jhula provides panoramic views of the Ganges River, the surrounding hills, and the town of Rishikesh. The bridge is often used by pedestrians and two-wheelers, offering a peaceful way to experience the beauty of the river and its surroundings. The eastern side of Ram Jhula leads to the Swarg Ashram area, which is known for its spiritual retreats and the Beatles Ashram. The western side connects to the Sivananda Ashram and the Geeta Bhawan. Ram Jhula plays a crucial role in connecting different parts of Rishikesh and facilitates movement between the eastern and western banks of the Ganges. Rishikesh is well-connected by road, and the bridge is easily accessible. The nearest railway station is in Haridwar, and the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the closest airport. The vicinity around Ram Jhula is bustling with activity and features markets, shops, and eateries catering to both locals and tourists. Ram Jhula is often part of the route for processions and religious events, especially during festivals like Ganga Dussehra and other cultural celebrations.
