Parikshith Thampuran Museum (Durbar Hall Art Gallery), Kochi  Located on Durbar Hall Road in Ernakulam, the Parikshith Thampuran Museum, also known as the Durbar Hall Art Gallery, is housed in a splendid Kerala‑style heritage building that once served as the guest house and ceremonial hall of the Cochin Royal Family. Named after Rama Varma Parikshith Thampuran, the last ruler of Cochin, the museum is managed by Kerala’s Department of Archaeology. Inside, visitors can explore a rich collection of 19th-century paintings, royal memorabilia, mural reproductions, and sculptures crafted from stone and plaster of Paris. The exhibits also include ancient coins, weapons, and antiques that belonged to the Kochi royal lineage. The highlight is the former Durbar Hall once used for royal audiences preserved in its original architectural elegance with wooden carvings and terracotta-tiled roofs. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, closed on Mondays and national holidays. Entry is free, though photography and videography are restricted inside. A visit typically takes 1 to 2 hours, ideal for history buffs, art lovers, and cultural tourists wanting to delve into Kerala’s royal past.
