About Sri Panayapuram Panankateesvarar Temple

Sri Thiruppuravar Panankateesvarar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Panayapuram village near Vikravandi in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the historic Shiva temples in the region and is believed to be more than 1,300–2,000 years old. The temple was originally built during the Pallava period (before the 7th century). Later it was rebuilt in stone by the Chola kings and expanded during the Vijayanagara period. Temple inscriptions mention Kulothunga Chola I and record donations for lamps and land for temple maintenance.
