The Srivilliputhur Andal Temple, located in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, is one of the most sacred Vaishnavite temples and is revered as a Divya Desam one of the 108 holy shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is primarily devoted to Goddess Andal, the only female Alwar saint among the twelve, and Lord Vishnu as Vatapatrasayi. The temple's iconic 11-tier Rajagopuram, rising over 190 feet, is the official emblem of the Tamil Nadu Government. According to legend, Periyalwar, a devout Vishnu bhakta, found baby Andal under a tulsi plant in the temple garden, considering her a divine gift. Andal grew up immersed in devotion, composing the Tiruppavai, a set of 30 hymns still sung during Margazhi. She dreamt of marrying Lord Ranganatha of Srirangam. Moved by her devotion, the Lord accepted her love, and it is believed she merged with him at Srirangam. The temple is known for its stunning architecture, sacred garden (nandavanam), and elaborate festivals, especially Aadi Pooram and Margazhi Tiruppavai celebrations. Pilgrims believe that worshipping Andal here brings marital harmony, fulfillment of desires, and divine blessings. It is both a religious and cultural landmark in Tamil Nadu.
