Stockholm Palace, also known as the Royal Palace (Kungliga Slottet), is the official residence and major royal palace of the Swedish monarch. It is located on Stadsholmen, in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden. The palace is a prominent landmark and a significant cultural and historical site. While Stockholm Palace is the official residence of the Swedish monarch, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and Queen Silvia, they mainly reside at Drottningholm Palace, located just outside Stockholm. Stockholm Palace is primarily used for official events, ceremonies, and as the workplace for the monarch. The palace has a Baroque style and was built in the 18th century. The facade is characterized by its distinctive yellow color and grand design. The palace complex includes over 600 rooms, making it one of the largest palaces in Europe. A popular attraction for visitors is the daily Changing of the Guard ceremony, which takes place in the outer courtyard. The Swedish royal guards, dressed in ceremonial uniforms, carry out this tradition. Stockholm Palace contains several museums and royal apartments that are open to the public. Visitors can explore the State Apartments, the Treasury, the Tre Kronor Museum (depicting the history of the palace), and the Royal Chapel. The palace is home to several chapels, including the Royal Chapel and the Gustavus Adolphus Chapel. The Royal Chapel is the location for important royal events, such as weddings and christenings. Stockholm Palace is situated near Stortorget, the main square in the historic Gamla Stan (Old Town) district.
