About Subramanya Swamy temple

The Arulmigu Enkan Murugan Temple, located near Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, is a sacred hill temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, the god of war and wisdom. Revered as one of the significant Murugan shrines in the region, it is believed to be one of the spots where Lord Murugan rested after his battle with the demon Soorapadman. The temple is steeped in legend its name, "Enkan," meaning “My Eyes,” comes from a miraculous tale of a blind sculptor who, after creating a divine idol here, regained his vision when blood from a helper’s cut finger fell into his eyes. Overwhelmed, he exclaimed "Engan! Engan!" (My eyes!), which became the name of the place. Perched atop a small hill, the temple provides a serene setting ideal for spiritual reflection. Lord Murugan, worshipped here as Subramanya Swamy, stands in a majestic posture radiating valor and divine grace. Shrines for Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha are also present, completing the divine family. The temple showcases traditional Tamil architecture with an elegant gopuram and mandapams, and becomes especially vibrant during Thaipusam and Skanda Sashti. Devotees believe prayers here relieve obstacles, health issues, and mental distress while promoting courage, clarity, and spiritual growth.
