Top Attractions around kanniyakumari

The Thiruvalluvar Statue in Kanyakumari is a towering monument dedicated to the celebrated Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, the author of the ancient text Thirukkural a timeless work on ethics, governance, and love. Standing at a majestic height of 133 feet, the statue symbolizes the 133 chapters of the Thirukkural. It is situated on a small rocky islet near the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean, not far from the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Unveiled on 1st January 2000, this statue was designed by sculptor Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati and serves as a powerful emblem of Tamil culture, wisdom, and unity. The pedestal itself is 38 feet high, representing the 38 chapters of virtue in the Thirukkural, while the standing figure represents the remaining teachings on wealth and love. Visitors can reach the statue via a short ferry ride from the mainland. The panoramic views from the base are breathtaking, especially during sunrise or sunset. The site also inspires philosophical reflection, making it a popular spot for both pilgrims and tourists. The Thiruvalluvar Statue stands not just as an architectural marvel, but as a tribute to Tamil Nadu’s spiritual and literary legacy.
