Uvari Suyambulinga Swamy Temple Located in the tranquil village of Uvari in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district, the Suyambulinga Swamy Temple is a unique and spiritually powerful shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is named after the “Suyambu Lingam,” a self-manifested Shiva Lingam believed to have emerged naturally from the earth. The vendor initially constructed a simple palm-leaf shrine, which was later rebuilt as a stone temple by the locals. A remarkable feature of this temple is that sunlight falls directly on the Shiva Lingam throughout the Tamil month of Margazhi (December–January), an event considered especially sacred. What makes this temple even more special is the belief that the seawater near the shrine possesses curative properties, particularly for skin diseases and chronic ailments. Many devotees take a dip in the sea and then perform rituals at the temple to cleanse themselves physically and spiritually. The temple is simple yet deeply spiritual, and the continuous chanting of “Om Namah Shivaya” creates a serene, meditative atmosphere. Devotees from across Tamil Nadu and Kerala visit this temple with immense faith, especially during Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, and other auspicious days.
